Progesterone
Definition
Progesterone is a hormone produced mainly by the ovaries that prepares the uterus for pregnancy each month.
Purpose
Investigation of infertility problems or monitoring the effectiveness of treatment; assessment of miscarriage risk in pregnancy; detection of ectopic pregnancy; evaluation of abnormal uterine bleeding; screening for ovarian cancer or adrenal gland disorders; confirmation of normal ovulation.
