Definition

BCL6 is a proto-oncogene encoding a transcriptional repressor required for germinal center B-cell development; in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) it undergoes chromosomal rearrangement in approximately 20 to 35% of cases and is detected by FISH using break-apart probes. Its prognostic effect is controversial: it is unassociated with survival in the CHOP group, while in the R-CHOP group it shows a trend toward poor prognosis that does not reach significance.
