FISH analysis - C-MET (7q31.2) 7q31.2 amplification, chromosome 7 aneuploidy

Definition

The MET (c-MET) gene encodes the hepatocyte growth factor receptor. MET amplification is one of the most important mechanisms of acquired resistance to first/second generation EGFR-TKI treatment in EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients and is detected in approximately 5 to 22% of patients who develop resistance; it is also increasingly recognized as a resistance mechanism to third generation TKIs (osimertinib).

Method

FISH analysis

Accepted sample types

Fresh tumor tissue, FFPE

Description

Prognosis.

Inheritance

MET amplification is an acquired (somatic) resistance mechanism that develops in the tumor during EGFR-TKI treatment; it is not a hereditary variant.
