Definition

After allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, if the donor and recipient sexes differ, X and Y chromosome-specific FISH probes can be used to directly count the proportions of donor (XY) and recipient (XX) cells. Because this method is applicable only in sex-mismatched transplants, its use is limited; most centers today prefer STR-PCR-based chimerism analysis.
