Definition

This translocation places the MAFB gene under the influence of the IGH enhancer, causing aberrant MAFB expression. It is seen in only about 1% of multiple myeloma cases, making it the rarest of the common IGH translocations. It is associated with long-term stable disease in MGUS patients, while in active myeloma it is associated with poor prognosis, the same somatic lesion can show a different clinical course at different disease stages.
