Definition

The RPL11 gene encodes the large ribosomal subunit protein uL5; its deficiency impairs pre-rRNA processing and ribosome biogenesis. It accounts for 5 to 7% of DBA cases, and thumb anomalies are markedly prominent in the clinical picture.
