Definition

The NHLRC1 (EPM2B) gene encodes a protein called 'malin', which together with laforin regulates glycogen metabolism; loss of function leads to accumulation of Lafora bodies. The clinical picture overlaps with that of EPM2A: myoclonus beginning in adolescence, generalized seizures, and progressive cognitive decline.
