Definition

Gain/amplification of CKS1B at 1q21 and deletion of CDKN2C (p18) at 1p32 are among the most common cytogenetic abnormalities in multiple myeloma; CKS1B gain is detected in approximately 40% of newly diagnosed patients and is usually accompanied by CDKN2C loss. 1q21 gain is an independent poor prognostic factor and significantly shortens survival.
