IDH2 Gene Sequence Analysis
Definition
IDH2 mutations are seen in approximately 12% of AML patients and, similar to IDH1, lead to epigenetic disruption through production of 2-hydroxyglutarate. The most common variants are R140 and R172; patients with the R140 mutation have significantly longer overall and progression-free survival compared with R172.
Gene/region examined
IDH2 exon 4
Method
DNA analysis
Accepted sample types
Bone marrow (EDTA), FFPE
Description
AML prognosis.
Inheritance
This is somatic, a mutation acquired in AML blasts; unlike IDH1, it is mainly of clinical significance in AML.
