Definition

Heterozygous pathogenic variants in the NEUROD1 gene impair the function of a transcription factor that supports transcription of the insulin gene and beta cell development. MODY6 is an extremely rare subtype with fewer than 15 cases reported in the literature; sulfonylureas are the first-line treatment option.
