Definition

Autosomal dominant nonsyndromic hearing loss (DFNA) is a genetically heterogeneous group of diseases caused by heterozygous variants in different genes. Variants in the WFS1 gene (DFNA6/14/38) account for approximately 9% of all autosomal dominant nonsyndromic hearing loss cases in Europe; clinically it is a slowly progressive form of hearing loss affecting low frequencies.
